2025 Winter Symposium

Disaster Recovery: The NDRIN Way

Description
In this session, attendees will learn about the North Dakota Recorders Information Network (NDRIN), a collaborative initiative that transitioned North Dakota's real estate records to a secure online platform, with an emphasis on disaster recovery. The 1997 Red River Flood exposed the vulnerabilities of physical records, prompting the creation of NDRIN with support from a FEMA grant. This initiative ensures secure digital access to land records from over 50 counties. Previously stored in physical books and microfilm at county courthouses, these records are now preserved and accessible online. NDRIN not only provides convenient access to critical documents but also acts as a disaster-proof solution, safeguarding them against potential loss. County recorders will share insights on how this platform preserves historical records while offering secure, modern access for future generations.
