Recording Corrective Documents

Description
PRIA’s Property Recording Industry Processes (PRIP) Work Group recently published a paper on Common Practices for Recording Corrective Documents, a practice for which there is little guidance provided in state statutes. Correcting recorded documents is necessary when omissions, errors, outdated information, or new legal requirements are identified in a previously recorded document. The corrective process ensures that all the information within a document is accurate, consistent, and up to date.

Learning objectives:
 To understand what is meant by “original document” and “original signature.”
 To identify the similarities and differences between a corrective document and a
re-recorded document.
 To recognize common practices involved in both correcting and re-recording
documents.
 To discover implications to the title industry and potential legal liability.
